splendid five minutes.

Jean passed what the nurse called a splendid night and
is doing well. The doctor stayed all night.

One of the proofs of the immortality of the soul is that
myriads have believed it. They also believed the world
was fiat.

The gods offer no rewards for intellect. There was
never one yet that showed any interest in it. Which is
singular, for they themselves have possessed it, some of
them in a considerable degree; not transcending the
human limit in any instance, but quite often reaching it.

What is the difference between a taxidermist and a tax
collector? The taxidermist takes only your skin.

To create man was a fine and original idea; but to add
the sheep was tautology.

None of us can be as great as God, but any of us can
be as good.

All gods are better than their conduct.

Only he who has seen better days and lives to see better
days again knows their full value.

Circumstances make man, not man circumstances.
